The Books Raise Standards initiative set out to encourage participation in a county-wide reading campaign aimed at improving children’s literacy levels. The brief was clear: drive awareness and inspire action across educators, parents, and young readers. Our role was to create a campaign framework that felt engaging, motivating, and accessible to a broad audience, while providing a flexible approach for digital and social channels.

The challenge was to make literacy exciting and community-focused, without feeling didactic. We developed a strategic vision that positioned Books Raise Standards as a rallying call for Oxfordshire and beyond — celebrating reading as a fun, empowering activity rather than a chore. This insight shaped the tone, messaging, and visual identity, ensuring that every element of the campaign felt purposeful and motivating.

We built the creative around the transformative power of books. The design system uses playful graphics, bold colour accents, and lively typography to draw children in, while illustrations and messaging are crafted to feel inclusive, inspiring, and memorable. The approach balances vibrancy with clarity, ensuring that the campaign feels approachable for educators and parents alike, and encourages consistent participation from all audiences.

The concept translates strategy into practical tools: print and digital resources, social media content, and community-led initiatives that make reading engaging and achievable. The result is a campaign framework that encourages interaction, supports literacy development, and leaves a tangible legacy for children and educators — creating a structured yet flexible model that can evolve in future iterations.
